My name is Matt McKea. I am a senior at Alta High School. I am a 3-sport athlete. I compete in Football, Basketball, and Volleyball. I come from a family of 6. I have my 2 parents and 3 older sisters. I am a member of the National Honors Society and have been on the Honor Roll for the entirety of my time at Alta High School. One of my biggest honors is that I was nominated and received the Junior-Scholar Athlete award from the National Football Foundation.
I am one of the captains of the Varsity football team this year. I have played at the varsity level since I was a sophomore. I started out playing Quarterback but, I have switched it up this year. I am starting in the Wide Receiver spot. As of this moment, after 12 games I have a total of 1152 receiving yards in 90 receptions (new school record). This is also the first year that I’ve played defense. I play Safety, where after 11 games, I have made 50 tackles, 31 of them solo. By far, this year has been the most enjoyable, because I have changed my mind set to use my skills, talent and athleticism to just enjoy the game, and help others realize that their hard work will pay off. That’s not to say that I have given up any desire to work hard and learn. Those things are second-nature to me. As long as we are working, learning and growing together, we will get better game after game.
I have also gained a love for Basketball. I’d like to say that this sport requires a lot of work in different aspects. The conditioning can be rough, but that too pays off. I know this because of the makeup of the team over the past two years. I have been privileged enough to have learned from some really great players how to be a great player and teammate. My team won the State Championship in 2022 and played in the 2023 State Championship game. Those experiences taught me very valuable lessons; each one with their highs and their lows. What a ride!
